“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.”
Today, I want to reprimand the lazy folks in our churches. Of course, I am aware that laziness is both in and of the church; however, the laziness in the born again churches especially, is appalling. It is only in the church, where you will find believers loitering purposelessly around the church compound year after year, with this slogan; “I am waiting upon the Lord to bless me…” Who told you that the blessing of God encourages you to be lazy, and do nothing?
The Easy-to-read version of our theme scripture says, “Every time you find work to do, do it the best you can. In the grave there is no work. There is no thinking, no knowledge; and there is no wisdom. And we are all going to the place of death.” Child of God, God has placed us on earth for a purpose; you have attained your degree for a purpose – put the knowledge thereof to use. You have acquired the skills you have for a purpose – apply those skills to use. God has granted you wisdom, logical thinking, sound mind for a purpose – use your head well while you are still on earth, because afterall earth is the only opportunity we have to use our head for a living.
As believers we always quote, “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it.” (Proverbs 10:22) This is true! I agree! Notwithstanding, the bible also says, “He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.” (Proverbs 18:9) Beloved, working hard is a necessity for any earth dwelling believer, even though it is not the absolute thing. Hard work will give you the means of survival on earth, and the blessing of the Lord will cause you to flourish on the earth. The only difference between wishful believers and well-off non-believers is their hard work.
Finally, I want to end by Thomas Edison’s words, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” What a tragic way of describing our generation this is! Many of our people have a negative attitude towards work, infact, some people believe that work is a punishment from God upon man. No, that’s not true! Before the fall of man in Genesis 3, God had already assigned the man to work in Genesis 2:15. Church leaders, let us urge our people especially the young generation, to work hard, to think, to acquire knowledge after knowledge, and to follow after wisdom. The blessing of the LORD that makes you rich, with no sorrow added to it, does not, in any way omit the fact that you have to work hard. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:… Glory to the LORD!
I Love You!
