“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel– not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.”
I am equally astonished as Paul was to see some Christians deserting the grace of Christ in which we have been called by God, for a different gospel.
I want to ask, Which is this “other gospel” that is now seemingly sweeter and more realistic than the grace of Christ? What different gospel have people turned to instead of cleaving to the gospel of Christ?
The answer is in verse 7, “not that there is another one [gospel], but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.” The Living Bible version puts it this way, “For there is no other way than the one we showed you; you are being fooled by those who twist and change the truth concerning Christ.”
Brethren, there is only one gospel, that is, the Gospel of Christ. The Gospel of Christ preaches Salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ only; the gospel of Christ teaches salvation that is not out of our own human efforts but that is the gift of God, and the gospel of Christ teaches salvation that is not of works lest anyone should boast of their own might and power. This is the true gospel, the only gospel.
However, there are some selfish, domineering legalists with ulterior motives who have twisted and changed the truth concerning Christ, and have erected traditions of men and the rudiments of this world to have Christians dance to their tunes.
But beloved, you watch out! The Gospel of Christ is not as controlling as some have presented it to be, it is not even as difficult as some have made it appear; and by the way, I am not suggesting that the gospel of Christ is a lawless affair. Nope. The Gospel of Christ is a love affair with evident fruits of good works.
Romans 7:4 says, “Likewise, my brethren, you have undergone death as to the Law through the [crucified] body of Christ, so that now you may belong to Another, to Him Who was raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God.”
Jesus in John 13:34-35 said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
And Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:14 affirms by saying, “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:”
In the gospel of Christ we have the commandment of love. And this commandment of love fulfills all the requirements of the commandments of Moses because in Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
Therefore, the hearts of the worshippers need to be built on the gospel, the gospel of Christ full of grace and mercy. Teach not another gospel; not Moses, not philosophy, nor motivational speaking BUT Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Hallelujah!
I Love You!
Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I thank You for the gospel of Christ which is the grace of Christ by which we have been saved. I pray for the spirit of wisdom and revelation to come upon us so as to know and differentiate the gospel of Christ from any other gospel which may seek to entangle and enslave us in the bondage of the traditions of men and the rudiments of this world. Thank you Father in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
