“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.”
By now I know that you know what the Gospel is, if you don’t then look out for my previous devotions on What is the Gospel?
But as for today, I want us to shift our attention to the ardent warning Apostle Paul pronounced repeatedly upon those who distort the graceful gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In our theme scripture, the Apostle says, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.”
Paul’s twice-repeated pronouncement to the one who preaches a contrary gospel is “Let him be accursed!” This is Paul’s way of saying the person is doomed!
The original Greek word for accursed is anathema. It is the strongest single Greek term for condemnation.
With this let me also say, if you are teaching God’s flock with a different gospel other than that which the apostles taught i.e. the gospel of Christ, you are accursed, doomed, and condemned to destruction.
I appeal to you fellow ministers in the vineyard of our Father, let us focus on teaching Christ and Him crucified.
Please restrain and strongly distance yourself from teaching philosophies of men, traditions of men, the rudiments of the world, and from branding yourselves as motivation speakers rather than as the ministers of the Gospel.
There is no profession, or calling or occupation greater than the vocation of teaching, tending, and nurturing God’s flock. This vocation is about taking responsibility for God’s people and being accountable to God.
It is why establishing the saints’ heart on God’s grace is all about it for us as His servants and stewards. So, do not distort the gospel by preaching your own interests and agendas but the grace of Christ. Hallelujah!
I Love You!
Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I thank You for the gospel of Christ by which we have been saved. I pray for the spirit of wisdom and revelation to come upon us so as to know and differentiate the gospel of Christ from any other gospel which may seek to entangle and enslave us in the bondage of the traditions of men and the rudiments of this world. May we be faithful ministers of God’s manifold wisdom in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
