“Now when the people saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian [language,] “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!””
I am very much aware that some of you are already disturbed by the title of this devotion, however, I am not sorry whatsoever about the title above.
Let me begin this way, “The worst misfortune that ever occurred to me as a Christian was being introduced to this so-called religious humility that makes me separate myself from the divinity of Christ my life. It still affects me to date.”
Religion taught me to believe that God is up there in Heaven, and I am down here on earth and any effort geared towards being like God was considered blasphemous; so that in order to reach Him I must strive so hard, and pray a certain way then He will respond to me if He wills. But it was never a guarantee.
What a deception! Yes, it is a big deception. You see, much as that statement looks very genuine and appealing to the human intellect, it is folly, because separating yourself from the person of Christ means separating yourself from the power of Christ working in you.
For instance, now I am saying, “I am a god!” Do you know that I am offending some brethren who think I am being blasphemous?
Because to them calling yourself a god is equating yourself to God Almighty.
I want to ask, if a dog produces a dog, and man produces man, is it so difficult for God to produce God?
After all, the bible says in Psalms 82:6 that, “I said, “You [are] gods, And all of you [are] children of the Most High.”
One day, the Jews had an issue with Jesus because He said that He was the Son of God and they wanted to stone him for His words. Please follow the brief account directly from the Message Version below…
John 10:33-36 “The Jews said, “We’re not stoning you for anything good you did, but for what you said–this blasphemy of calling yourself God.” Jesus said, “I’m only quoting your inspired Scriptures, where God said, ‘I tell you–you are gods.’ If God called your ancestors ‘gods’–and Scripture doesn’t lie– why do you yell, ‘Blasphemer! Blasphemer!’ at the unique One the Father consecrated and sent into the world, just because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?”
Beloved! You are a god because you are in Christ who is the express image of God the Father.
As Christ is, so are you in this world (1 John 4:17). He is God and so are you. He is King and so are you. He is Lord and so are you.
Jesus is the King of kings, meaning He is the King over you who is king over all things on earth. He is the Lord over you the lord of all earthly things.
When I understood this, I realised that demons have no chance against me on any given day, because they are not coming against a mere man but against God.
And it is not that I am god today and human tomorrow. No, I am god now and forever. I am ever bearing the image of Christ who is my real life. What a beautiful mystery to live in!
This is why when Apostle Paul healed a crippled man from his mother’s womb while he was in Lystra, the people said, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!”
These people did not say, “Humans have come down to us in the likeness of gods.” No, they actually acknowledged Paul and his colleagues as gods, not as humans.
Friends, I appeal to you now by the mercy of God to start looking at yourself from henceforth as a god. Think like God, respond to things like God, and face life as God the victor, but not as man the victim. Hallelujah!
I Love You!
Almighty Father in the name of Jesus Christ. I thank You for giving me Jesus Christ, who is Your express image. Thank You, Master, for giving me earth as my domain to establish Your reign and Majesty. I refuse to operate like a frail human being and I am starting to operate like a god under authority in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
